About Jason

Jason Wood MP

Jason with aspiring
Australian Customs dogs.

Jason has a strong and lengthy relationship with the people and landscape of La Trobe. Raised in Ferny Creek, Jason was locally educated at the Ferny Creek Primary School, and then continued onto Ferntree Gully Technical School. This first hand experience of being raised through the State schooling system has encouraged Jason to remain actively involved with the local schools.

During his years at Ferntree Gully Technical School Jason developed a passion for the environment and the outdoors. During his outdoor education and environment course, Jason discovered how much fun there was to be had whilst enjoying the natural beauty of the Dandenong's. After completing his secondary education Jason began to work with youth groups teaching a variety of outdoor activities including, bushwalking, rock climbing and cross country skiing.

Prior to entering politics, Jason's history of community service had been long standing particularly as a member of the Victoria Police. Jason's years in the Police force caused him to see both the best and worst of humanity. His work with youth and drug related crimes has encouraged him to press for greater opportunities for young people who are struggling with school, family and other pressing issues. Our youth are our greatest asset and Jason believes that we must invest in them, for both their future and our future.

Jasons final posting with the Victoria Police was as the Senior Sergeant and Senior Project Officer in the Counter Terrorism Coordination Unit also responsible for legislation reviews and researching trends in terrorism. This experience has provided him with a firm position on terrorism and national defence issues. When Jason's not hard at work or helping to eradicate weeds in La Trobe, he can usually be found either watching the cricket on television or down at the local games.
