The electorate of La Trobe was named after Charles Joseph La Trobe, the first Superintendent of the Port Phillip District, who served from 1839 to 1851. He went on to become Lieutenant-Governor of the newly formed colony of Victoria.
The electorate covers a vast and changing landscape. Not only is it the landscape that is diverse but it is also the people of La Trobe and their lifestyles.
La Trobe incorporates parts of 4 local governments: the City of Casey; the City of Knox; the Shire of Yarra Ranges and the Shire of Cardinia. These areas cover a variety of different surroundings, from the Dandenong Ranges down to Australia's second fastest growth corridor in Narre Warren, Berwick, Officer and Beaconsfield.
Charles La Trobe had an immense passion for the environment and went on to be instrumental in the establishment of the Botanic Gardens in Melbourne. Jason shares Charles La Trobe's passion for the environment and seeks to protect and nurture the natural beauty of La Trobe. How appropriate it is to this day that the electorate should be named after a man who had such a passion for the environment.
