WELCOME FROM WOOD

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the La Trobe community for the privilege of being their representative since the 2004 Federal Election. Over the last three years we have achieved a great deal together.

For instance, thanks to your support, I was able to secure $8 million for safety measures on Wellington Road between Clematis and Lysterfield. Your fantastic response to a local roads survey meant I could demonstrate to the Australian Government in Canberra how important a safer Wellington Road is to our community.

I have really enjoyed getting involved with our local sporting clubs. Because of their hard work and initiative, I have been able assist The Basin Football Club, Upwey-Tecoma Bowls Club and Boronia Football Club obtain funding to upgrade their facilities.

Another project I am immensely proud of is the $10 million Australian Government-funded Bryn Mawr Bridge which links Bryn Mawr Boulevard with Soldiers Road in Berwick. I am pleased to report the bridge is on time and on budget.

We are blessed with an amazing natural environment in La Trobe and it has been terrific to see the Australian Government’s practical environmental programmes in action. For instance the Community Water Grants programme has brought a new culture of water-saving to our schools and community groups like the Berwick Bowling Club, Boronia West Primary School and the Dandenong Ranges Steiner School, to just to name a few.

Although we have achieved much, there is still more to be done. I would love the opportunity to work to ensure our community can build on these achievements and make La Trobe an even better place to live.
